Shafrik vs Shopify

Shopify is the global e-commerce reference, more than 5 million live stores, twenty years of history, an app ecosystem with no equivalent. But Shopify was designed for a seller who charges cards online, in a country where Shopify Payments exists. That is not the reality of any of Shafrik’s core markets (Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Mali, Cameroon). This is an honest comparison, no knocking: Shopify is a powerful tool, just not built for this problem.

MOLIA: what Shafrik’s AI actually does

MOLIA is not just a product-page generator. She is a dashboard collaborator who works with the seller every day:

  • Builds a complete product page (title, description, sales copy) from a single photo
  • Generates product visuals and images
  • Analyses store sales and stats on request, natural-language questions on revenue, visits, conversion rate
  • Can change an order in chat (status, details), always with a confirm step: MOLIA proposes, you click Confirm, never a silent action
  • Can reschedule a COD order to a later date, on the seller’s request
  • Answers in French or English on general store and order questions
  • Hands off to a real human when you ask (“I want to talk to an agent”) or when she cannot help: a support ticket opens in the same conversation, the team replies in the same thread

Shopify Magic helps write marketing copy, but it does not build the page or visuals from a photo, does not manage orders, and does not answer questions about store stats.

Cash on delivery is not a Shopify feature

On Shopify, cash on delivery is a checkbox in payment settings, one mode among others, treated as an exception. There are no order statuses that match COD reality: no distinction between an unreachable customer, a rescheduled delivery, or a confirmed order. To get those, you install a third-party app. The most used one, “EasySell COD Form & Upsells”, has a free plan capped at 60 orders per month. Beyond that you move to PRO at $9.95/month (440 orders/month), ADVANCED at $24.95/month (10,000 orders/month) or UNLIMITED at $59.95/month, plus $0.05 per extra order above each tier. In short: a seller with real COD volume pays that app on top of Shopify itself. On Shafrik those statuses and that order form are native and included, because COD is not an add-on, it has been the core of the product from day one.

No native Google Sheets sync on Shopify

Unlike Shafrik, where Google Sheets sync is native, on Shopify you install a separate third-party app to export orders to a spreadsheet. Apps like “Exportsy Sync to Google Sheets” or “eCommix Google Sheets Sync” have a free plan depending on volume; others of the same type are paid. It is not impossible to do for free, but it is one more brick to assemble yourself, rather than a function that is already there when you create the store.

The real problem: payment methods

Shopify Payments, Shopify’s own payment system, is only available in about twenty countries, none in francophone West or Central Africa. A seller in Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Mali or Cameroon must therefore plug in a third-party gateway, which adds extra fees (+2% on every sale, on top of the subscription) and does not guarantee any compatibility with Wave, Orange Money or MTN Mobile Money, the methods your customers actually use. Shafrik is designed around those local realities from the start, not added on the side.

The real price, not just the advertised subscription

The cheapest Shopify plan that actually lets you sell starts at $39/month, about 24,000 FCFA, before you add the apps needed to run COD properly (EasySell above) or a premium theme. Shafrik is created for free, no credit card, with 0% commission on your sales. If you want more features, Shafrik plans stay fixed and predictable: Starter at 6 900 F CFA/month, Pro at 14 900 F CFA/month, Business at 29 900 F CFA/month, never a percentage of what you sell.

Shopify really does a lot

Let’s be complete and honest: Shopify is not only older, it objectively does more than Shafrik today. Its marketplace has more than 17,000 apps (payments, marketing, accounting, loyalty, reviews…), its theme catalogue is huge, and the platform covers far more than online sales: a POS to sell in a physical shop, automatic abandoned-cart recovery, built-in multi-channel selling (Instagram, TikTok, Amazon), advanced automations via Shopify Flow, detailed reports, and Shopify Plus for merchants at very large scale. Add twenty years of history, a brand almost every online buyer recognises, and a huge community of developers and agencies. If you sell internationally, already charge cards, and need that level of integrations, Shopify has real, complete arguments.

How to choose

If your typical customer pays on delivery, in CFA francs, via Wave or Orange Money, and you want to launch a store with no starting budget and no technical skill, Shafrik is built for exactly that case, with COD, Google Sheets and the AI collaborator included instead of assembled app by app. The best way to choose is still to try: Shafrik is created for free, no credit card, in a few minutes.
